fictures!

Start from bottom and work ur way up! Blogspot messed up the order!

change in blog estyle

Ok...Im currently infected by writer's block. So im gonna let the pitures speak for themselves.

BTW, status currently:

My property papers are not in order so running around to set it right. Bank loan not yet approved for the same reason. Hope it get's sorted out soon. If not, finishing the house will get delayed!

The roof casting is done and it is currently in curing process. I have a cute 1 foot deep pool on the terrace and I hope host a lot of pool parties there :-)

The initial design with a whole lot of tile work over windows and for the car park didn't some how go well with me. The house - after the Roof moulding got done - looks like a BOX! That TOTALLY freakeD me out. I sat with the architect and we have redone the design. Now I am much more pleased with the results. Wait and watch to see the new design :-)

p.s: Moulding is the process of casting the concrete slab for beams and the roof together.

getting the motor!

It was a wild day today. The plan is to put concrete for footings on Sunday the day after tomorrow. The borewell is sitting idle for a few days now since there is no motor in it. Finally after a lot of screaming from mom I decided to finalise on the pumpset. I was waiting because relatives promised a good deal but since it was almost a week and no updates on it, I went ahead and called up a few places from just dial and finalised on one fellow. I didn't pay attention to the length of the electrical wire and it fell short of the plug point in the old house. Ofcorse, people (neighbours) had to pounce on it and say some nonsense :-) It was just a matter of going to a shop near by and getting some more length of wire...

Power conked as soon as all wiring was done and didn't come back for 2 hours. The installation person decided to leave when the power came back! The pump was checked up and later after mom came did pooja. The water is still muddy but hoping it will clear soon.

Just for record I got a Suguna 1.5HP pump with 14 stages. :-)

The borewell saga

Well... Initially I wanted to save the environment and all that. So I put my foot down saying no bore well. While building a residential property, the govt here levies commercial rates for water if we use water from public supply. So, after all the foundation pits were dug up I decided on the bore well. Reasons:
1) Commercial rates for water costs a bomb!
2) Public supply is intermittent and quantity unreliable
3) In future water might become scarce and better to have own supply

So we had to fill 2 pits, get the compound wall dug up and get a diviner to choose a spot for drilling that's assured of water. I got 2 diviners just to be sure and thankfully they both pointed to the same location.

So finally last Sunday, the 2-Nov, we got the bore well thing done. 60ft soft mud and after that only hard granite. Bored upto 200 ft after which it couldn't go any deeper. The water quantity was so large the hydraulic pressure could go no further. An aunt knew the bore well service provider and so we got some discount.

It was good fun watching the water start to gush out as the drill bit went in. Initially a cutter bit is used till they strike stone. Later a hydraulic big diameter bit that oscillates under pressure and strikes the stone powdering it is used. A plastic case is inserted first to hold the clay from collapsing and then a metallic casing is inserted deep until the stone to create a well sealed hole. The drill bit is then changed to a smaller one and pounding continued till sufficient water is found.

End of the day, I had a splitting headache. No sleep previous night worring about the cost and water availability and to add to it all the noise from drilling! Good at least we have nice clean water supply.

Ground structure: Soil 20 ft, clay 60ft, white granite 150ft, grey granite 180ft and black granite till 230ft. :-)

p.s: I know the tenses are all mixed up. excuse me for that.

What's the fuss all about

Well, basically it's this. I am constructing a house, in Bangalore. To my wonderful delight (I hope you get the sarcasm here) I found it to be an exciting experience.

It's been a dream of mine since childhood to build a home, and I would like to remember this experience over the years to come. I would also like to share this experience with friends (real and virtual). So watch this space, and be part of the roller coaster ride called "CONSTRUCTION".
